Assam bags 19 medals in 20th Junior National Wushu Championship 

In the 20th Junior National (Boys and Girls) Wushu Championship held in Phagwara, Punjab from October 20 to 25, Assam won 19 medals, including 2 gold, 2 silver, and 15 bronze.

The Punjab Wushu Association hosted the competition under the auspices of the Wushu Association of India.

The competition began on October 20 and was divided into two styles of Wushu: Sanda and Taolu, with nine weight categories for boys and five weight categories for girls.

In both categories, there were 26 gold, 17 silver, and 12 bronze medals.

The 20th Junior National ‘Wushu’ Championship was held on the campus of Lovely Professional University (LPU), with over 1500 athletes from all across India competing.

Moreover, the Assam medal winners in Taolu (routine) events Arhaan Borooah who won gold in Xingyiquan, Traditional Kung Fu event, Glory Bharali who bagged gold in Traditional Bare Hand, Traditional Kung Fu event. 

Gunjan Kalita earned one Silver in Jianshu and one Bronze in Qiangshu, while Deeksha Tewari won one Silver in Nandao and one Bronze in Nanquan.

Prantika Borah earned Bronze in Daoshu, Riki Kharka in Nandao, and Sneha Borah in Jianshu and Qiangshu, respectively. Bronze medalist Nihar Baruah in Jianshu. Sourav Kumar Bronze in Traditional Taijiquan, Traditional Kung Fu event, Barsha Diya Bordoloi Bronze in Baguazhang, Traditional Kung Fu event, Juli Rani Mech Bronze in Baguazhang, Traditional Kung Fu event.

Medals in Sanda (Free fighting) events are Manab Protim Sonowal won Bronze in below 52 kg (Junior Boys), Homraj Lama Bronze in below 65 kg (Junior Boys), Indro Ghole Bronze in below 75 kg (Junior Boys), Dwithwn Basumatary Bronze in below 56 kg (Youth Boys), Prativa Taye Bronze in below 52 kg (Youth Girls).

However, Shri Raj Pal Singh Sandhu (IPS), Commandant 7th Bn PAP Jalandhar, congratulated all the winners and participants and encouraged them to show off their best Wushu talents in order to win on an international level as well.

In addition, he also praised LPU for being a fantastic host and facilitator of sports of all kinds, as well as world-class academics.
