Mizoram : ZPM candidate Lalduhoma wins Serchhip Assembly elections

Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) candidate Lalduhoma won the bye-elections to the Serchhip Assembly Constituency with 8269 votes.

With around 3000 votes, Lalduhoma defeated his rival – Vanlalzawma of the Mizo National Front (MNF) who secured 5314 votes.

Congress candidate PC Laltlansanga secured third position in the bye-elections with 2669 votes.

In the bye-elections to the Serchhip Assembly seat, over 83 per cent turnout was recorded in Mizoram.

Bye-elections to the Serchhip Assembly Constituency was necessitated after the disqualification of Lalduhoma for “losing the character of an independent legislator”.

The Mizoram Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo said while disqualifying Lalduhoma, “He was elected as an Independent MLA but he lost that character because of the declaration”. He was elected from the Serchhip constituency in the 2018 elections.
