SC lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay and 4 others detained for shouting ‘inflammatory’ chants

Five people have been arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly screaming inflammatory and anti-Muslim chants at Jantar Mantar on August 8, including Supreme Court lawyer and former Delhi BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay.

The detained individuals have been named as Deepak Singh Hindu, Vineet Kranti, Preet Singh, and Vinod Sharma, the head of Sudarshan Vahini, according to Upadhyay, a senior police official. “They were all captured in a late-night operation, and legal paperwork are being prepared before they are arrested. At about 3 a.m., Upadhyay arrived at the Connaught Place police station and started the investigation,”

Hundreds of people attended a protest march organised by Upadhyay against “Colonial-era laws.” In claimed footage from the event, people were heard screaming menacing slogans.
