Happy to partner with Tesla, tweets KT Rama Tao as Elon Musk talks of challenges with govt

KT Rama Rao

Telangana urban development minister KT Rama Rao reached out to Tesla CEO Elon Musk days after he spoke about challenges with the government when asked about the electric car’s entry into the Indian market.

Rao, who is also the son of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, said his state is a leader in sustainability initiatives and that his government would be delighted to work with Tesla to overcome the barriers to doing business in the country.

“Hey, Elon,” says the narrator. I am the Minister of Industry and Commerce for the Indian state of Telangana. Will be delighted to work with Tesla to overcome the challenges of establishing a presence in India/Telangana. Our state is a national leader in environmental initiatives and a top-tier business destination in India.”

“Still working through a lot of challenges with the government,” Musk said two days ago in response to a Twitter user who asked when Tesla would launch in India.

To make electric cars more widely available in India, the leading entrepreneur has been pushing for lower import duties on his Tesla cars.

India is the world’s second-largest country by population and has one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

According to a LiveMint report, major Indian automakers Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Mahindra are opposed to lowering import duties on automobiles.

Tesla was free to use the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) window to produce electric vehicles in India, according to government sources.

According to LiveMint, the reason given by government sources for the Tesla launch delay was that Musk wanted to slash import tariffs without committing to produce in India.

Musk had announced earlier on Friday that Tesla Inc. merchandise can be purchased using the digital currency Dogecoin. Immediately after the tweet, the meme coin increased by nearly 20%.
