Tripura: Mosque vandalized and shops set on fire during VHP rally

During a rally organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in the Panisagar sub-division of the North Tripura district, a mosque was vandalized

Moreover, during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) gathering on Tuesday evening, at least two shops and three houses were set on fire.

The event was held by the VHP to protest recent attacks and violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.

A group of VHP activists vandalized a mosque in the Chamtilla neighborhood and then plundered at least three homes and at least two shops in the area were also set on fire during the rally, according to the police.

Meanwhile, in connection with the violence that erupted during the VHP gathering, the Tripura police have filed an FIR.

To prevent any form of bloodshed as a result of communal violence in Bangladesh, heavy security has been deployed in all vulnerable areas across Tripura.

Moreover, the Tripura police have issued a strong warning to rumor mongers who have been “trying to disturb” the state’s tranquillity.

In addition, Tripura police have stated that they will take legal action against people who are spreading rumors on social media platforms.

Narayan Das, a Panisagar-based Bajrang Dal leader who was present during the event, informed, “The VHP had organized a protest rally at Panisagar area today. After we came near Rowa, we found some youths standing in front of a mosque hurling abuses at us. They chanted Pakistan Zindabad and religious slogans. Some sporadic incidents occurred owing to their provocation.”

Following communal violence in Bangladesh, the Tripura government has increased security across the state.

Tripura’s security has been beefed up, particularly at the India-Bangladesh border.

Since last week, when “Islamic fundamentalists” in the neighboring country destroyed temples and vandalized Durga Puja pandals, communal tensions in Bangladesh have been high.

Following the communal unrest in Bangladesh, the Border Security Force (BSF) has reportedly been placed on high alert to prevent any infiltration.
