Fake photographs of vandalized mosque circulated, says Tripura Police

According to the Tripura police, some vested interests, are spreading fake photographs of the damaged and burned mosque on social media.

The police stated “…in Panisagar, North Tripura, no masjid was burnt and the photographs being shared of burning or damaged masjid or collection of sticks, etc are all fake and are not from Tripura,”

Following the incident on Tuesday, the Tripura Police warned that ‘fake’ social media accounts are being formed and exploited to promote communally sensitive stories.

In addition, the police also said that certain persons by using fake social media IDs are spreading fake news/rumors on Tripura.

The Tripura police, on the other hand, declared that the state’s law-and-order situation is completely normal.

“It is informed that law & order situation in the State is absolutely normal,” Tripura police claimed

Police are also requesting that members of all communities avoid any form of endorsing and subscribing to such fake IDs, as well as spreading fake photographs.

However, they have already filed complaints against those who spread misleading news and rumors about communally important issues, and legal action will be taken against such.

According to the police, certain vested interests are attempting to disrupt Tripura’s peaceful communal environment.

Tripura Inspector General of Police, Saurabh Tripathi said “Anti-national and mischievous elements on Twitter and Facebook are spreading fake news and rumors. The videos and photos that are being spread have no connection with the Panisagar incident. No fire incident took place at any mosque,”.

North Tripura superintendent of police, Bhanupada Chakraborty also stated “Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists took out a rally to protest against the recent violence in Bangladesh. A group of people threw stones and damaged a door of a mosque in the Chamtilla area during the rally. Security forces rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control,”.
