On Thursday, 76 Covid cases were found out of 491 samples tested in Sikkim, indicating a sudden increase in Covid infections. According to the Health Department, the state’s Covid positivity rate was 15.5 percent. One inmate at Namchi Central Jail recently tested positive for Covid. Following that, the primary contacts were tested, revealing that the contagion had spread to 60 other inmates and five jail staff members. The necessary containment and isolation procedures were followed.
From the 217 samples tested, eleven cases were reported from the east district. From the 183 samples tested, the South district reported 65 Covid cases. The Health Department reported 60 inmates and five staff members of Namchi Central Jail as Covid cases in the south district.
In Sikkim, there are currently 206 active Covid cases, with seven recoveries on Thursday. There are currently 15 Covid patients in local hospitals, two of whom are in the intensive care unit.
