Nagaland : CM directs stakeholders to resume talks

Neiphiu Rio Naga political issue

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed that all parties involved in the vexing Naga Political problem start discussions as soon as can.

This was announced by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio following a meeting with Amit Shah in Shillong on Saturday.

He also stated that negotiations on the Naga political problem are nearing completion.

“Talks are at an advanced stage. There has been a break of nearly five months in the negotiation process so the Union home minister has asked all stakeholders to immediately resume talks for an early solution to the issue,” Rio said.

The Naga Political Issues Parliamentary Core Committee, chaired by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, met with the NSCN-IM and the NNPGs earlier this week in Dimapur.

Both discussions focused on the next steps in resolving the decades-old Naga political dispute.

The Core Committee has encouraged the NSCN-IM to continue discussions with the Government of India in order to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

The Naga talks came to a halt in early 2020 after the NSCN-IM declined to meet with mediator and Nagaland Governor RN Ravi.
