Nagaland: Centre promises to take up inland waterways project

Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, promised on Tuesday that the inland waterways project in Nagaland would be started this fiscal year.

When P. Paiwang Konyak, the minister of transport, civil aviation, railways, and land resources, visited Sonowal in Delhi on Tuesday, he was informed of this. The Tizu-Zungki River was designated as National Waterway-101 by the Centre in 2016.

Paiwang informed Sonowal that M/s WAPCOS had prepared comprehensive DPRs for the project and that the proposal had been submitted to the Ministry for approval.

Sonowal also asked Paiwang to submit a list of “top priorities” prepared by the state government during the meeting, and Paiwang promised to do so within a week, according to deputy director and PRO Nagaland House Delhi, Kuolie Mere.
