According to a party leader, the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) will field K. Laldawngliana, the head of a state-run public sector initiative, in the next by-election to the Tuirial assembly seat, which has yet to be announced.
Laldawngliana, chairman of Mizoram State Cooperative Marketing & Consumers Federation (MIZOFED) Ltd, was unanimously approved as the party nominee for the by-poll at a meeting of the MNF nomination committee chaired by chief minister and MNF president Zoramthanga on Tuesday, according to MNF adviser and rural development minister Lalruatkima.
Meanwhile, high-ranking members of Congress have confirmed that C Chalrosanga, a former legislator and party leader, will run in the upcoming by-election.
According to the reports, the name of the party’s candidate would be published soon.
The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), the main opposition, has yet to choose a candidate.
