Manipur: MSFDS mourns demise of film-maker Guruaribam John Sharma

The Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) has expressed its heartfelt condolences on the death of film producer and cameraman Guruaribam John Sharma.

John was the nephew of film pioneer Gurumayum Narayan Sharma and a native of Keishampat, Keisham Leikai.

He died on December 28 in a hospital in Delhi while receiving treatment for a kidney disease, leaving behind his wife and two children.

Under the NS films label, John produced and directed the award-winning film “Saklon Amada” (2010). The film won the best film prize at the SS Manifa Film Festival.

In a statement, MSFDS said, “Manipuri Cinema has lost a dedicated film practitioner with the tragic loss of John Sharma.” MSFDS shares the bereaved family’s pain.”

A candlelight vigil was observed at the Manipuri Cinema Memorial at the MSFDS compound at Palace gate as a show of respect and homage to the dead film star.

John produced and directed cinematography of “Saklon Amada” (2010) under the NS films banner. The film received the best film award in the SS Manifa Film award.

He was a resident of Keishampat Keisham Leikai and also was the nephew of film pioneer, Gurumayum Narayan Sharma.
