Congressmen allegedly assaults journalist in Thoubal

A journalist from the Thoubal district was allegedly beaten up by approximately 20 Congress party workers on Sunday.

The journalist is a correspondent for a local newspaper.

This violent incident occurred in Manipur’s Thoubal district.

The journalist, identified as Elangbam Rameshwar, works as a correspondent for the Naharolgi Thoudangv newspaper, which is published in Imphal.

A gang of about 20 men raided Ramseshwar’s house, claiming to be Block Congress workers from the Heirok constituency in Thoubal’s district.

According to accounts, a gang of 20 Congressmen assaulted Rameshwar in his home in front of his family.

The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. at his property, according to police.

He was taken to the hospital right away to be treated for his injuries.

According to the victim’s younger brother’s complaint, roughly 20 males wearing face masks arrived at their resident. The masked individuals assaulted the victim and inflicted injuries for no apparent cause. The intruders are also said to have vandalized items at the victim’s home.

Rameshwar is also the vice-president of the Thoubal District Journalists’ Union.

The union has condemned the attack and urged that the perpetrators be held accountable.

Locals have also demanded justice for the journalist and have protested the crime by blocking the Heirok rock.

Meanwhile, the Thoubal district authorities have issued a prohibitory order in the “whole of Heirok village area” under Section 144 of the CrPC, with immediate effect from Sunday.

The police have filed a report in connection with the incident and are currently investigating it.

The police have made no arrests in connection with the case so far.
