Manipur: Large Cache of UNLF militants’ arms recovered in Imphal; 3 detained

On Sunday, police in Manipur’s Imphal East district discovered a large cache of arms and ammunition and arrested three people, including a United National Liberation Front (UNLF) rebel. Prafullo Singh, a 43-year-old ULNF militant, has been arrested.

According to a police official, a team of Manipur police officers launched a search operation at Huikap Awang Leikai in Thoubal district after receiving specific information.

The police team discovered 13 AK-56 rifles, an AK-81, an AK-86 rifle, two M-16 series assault rifles, an RPG launcher with a live shell, 200 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition, and 10 rounds of 5.5 live ammunition during the search operation.

The arms and ammunition were discovered hidden beneath a UNLF rebel Prafullo Singh’s cowshed. According to cops, the weapons belonged to the banned UNLF. Laitonjam Kumar Sinh (47) and Wahengbam Tompok (49) of Huikap Mayai Leikai were the other two people apprehended. The cops claimed they assisted Prafullo in concealing the weapons and ammunition.

“We received reliable information from UNLF members about weapons hidden in Huikap Awang Leikai. “The district police team, led by an additional SP under my supervision, rushed to the area and conducted a massive search operation, which resulted in the recovery of weapons,” Thoubal SP Jogeschandra Haobijam said.
