Following the discovery of a suspected homemade bomb at Khulicherra in Cachar district, an uneasy calm reigns along the Assam-Mizoram border areas. Locals in Khulichera, near an under-construction bridge site, were said to have discovered the rudimentary bomb on Saturday.
“A bridge is under construction at Khulcherra area near the inter-state border. We got information that the explosive was kept near a drain and it has a detonator attached with it,” Cachar district superintendent of police (SP) Ramandeep Kaur was quoted while speaking to the media.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, a team of forensics experts from Guwahati will arrive in Silchar, the capital of Assam’s Cachar district, to determine the type of the alleged homemade bomb. The area around the suspected crude bomb has been roped off and placed in a pit for “security concerns.”
Uneasy calm has been risen up in the Khulichera neighbourhood, however, following the discovery of the suspected bomb. Several incidences of miscreants carrying out explosions along the sensitive Assam-Mizoram border had already been reported.
Last month, the Assam police had arrested a Mizoram cop for his alleged involvement in a blast near a police outpost in Assam side. The Mizoram cop was identified as Laldintwanga, an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBN) personnel, a resident of Bhairabi area of Kolasib district.
“During the investigation, we found that the Mizoram miscreants used detonating cord for blasting the explosive. We have arrested one Mizoram citizen for being involved in the explosive blast,” Hailakandi SP Gaurav Upadhyay had said.
