Planning to speed up freight flow along Brahmaputra River, says Sarbananda Sonowal

In Assam, preparations are being made to speed up freight flow along the Brahmaputra River. Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal confirmed this.

Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, stated that enhanced connectivity will help Assam’s economic development.

According to an official release, he stated that the Centre’s Act East Policy is a vital component in developing Assam and the northeast into a connectivity centre.

According to the official statement, the minister also paid a visit to the projected cargo port, tourist jetty, and river front development projects near Bogibeel bridge across the Brahmaputra River in Dibrugarh district.

Assam’s Dibrugarh is being transformed into the country’s river port city, according to the union minister.

Developing the Brahmaputra National Waterway-2 (Brahmaputra) and the Barak National Waterway-16 (Barak) is leveraging our link with Bangladesh and providing us with a path to global markets, he added.

Sonowal also paid a visit to the proposed cargo port, tourist jetty, and river front development projects at Bogibeel bridge across the Brahmaputra here, where he spoke with stakeholders to speed up the work, according to the statement.

The previous Assam chief minister stated that appropriate preparations are being done to make Dibrugarh a significant national river port.

Developing the Brahmaputra National Waterway-2 (Brahmaputra) and the Barak National Waterway-16 (Barak) is leveraging our link with Bangladesh and providing us with a path to global markets, he added.
