In central Assam’s Hojai district, a 35-year-old Muslim man who adopted a Hindu identity and married a Hindu woman has been arrested. The man was detained by Hojai police after the woman filed a complaint.
According to a police official, the woman used the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of Hojai to file a written complaint against her husband with the Hojai SP.
In her complaint, the woman from upper Assam’s Dhemaji district claimed that she met the muslim man because they both used to work in Tamil Nadu.
She claims the man, who is from Nakhuti’s 2 Sarke Basti area in Lumding police station in Hojai district, disguised his religious identity and married her as a Hindu.
He allegedly began torturing her both mentally and physically after they married, according to the woman.
Her husband allegedly looted a large sum of money from her and fled from Tamil Nadu to Nakhuti after a few months.
Because her husband had not contacted her, the woman travelled to Doboka, where she learned about her husband’s true religious identity and other details.

SP Hojai On the basis of a complaint filed by Barun Purkayastha, a team from Lumding Police Station was dispatched to his village on Wednesday night and arrested him. The man has been charged with various sections of the Indian Penal Code by Lumding Police (IPC).
