Assam sport & youth affairs minister Bimal Borah has also congratulated Hazarika.

“Heartiest congratulations to eminent swimmer Shri Elvis Ali Hazarika for becoming the 1st Assamese to successfully swim from Dharamtar Jetty to the Gateway of India in an ardous swim taking 10 hours to complete,” Borah tweeted. “Assam immensely proud of you and your achievement. Keep shining,” he added.

“It was a challenging challenge since we swam with very large fish and couldn’t see well at night owing to the lack of light in the water,” Hazarika remarked after finishing the swim. “For me and the people of Assam, this is a dream come true,” he continued.

Hazarika started his adventure in the United States and swam more over 80 kilometres in 10 hours and 59 minutes to reach his objective in Mexico.
