CM Sarma: No re-imposition of Lockdown in Assam

There will be no lockdown in Assam, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. “IN ASSAM, THERE WILL BE NO LOCKDOWN,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared.

The Assam chief minister was responding to rumours circulating on social media that the state would be placed under new lockdown. Rubbishing the rumours, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “It has come to my notice that some unscrupulous elements are spreading rumours about re-imposition of lockdown. Such rumours are totally baseless.”

He added: “I urge everyone NOT to pay heed to such misinformation. Let’s join Govt efforts on mass & 100% vaccination.”

Assam’s health minister, Keshab Mahanta, previously stated that the state government is considering further restrictions after the state saw a slight increase in COVID-19 cases during the Durga Puja celebrations.

If the increase of COVID-19 cases does not decrease in the following days, Mahanta said the state government will consider imposing more limitations.

However, the fact that the Assam government is considering reimposing lockdown in the state, since some unscrupulous individuals are propagating rumours, was never highlighted.

This comes after Assam reported 139 cases of coronavirus on Sunday, breaking a five-day sequence of over 300 COVID-19 cases in the state. Assam’s caseload, according to the National Health Mission, is 6,08,589. On the same day, five more coronavirus deaths were reported.

Assam currently has 2,510 active COVID-19 cases. In the meantime, 5,98,759 people have recovered from COVID-19, with 244 of them recovering since Saturday.

According to the health bulletin, 2,711,12,132 persons in Assam have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccination.
