In a shocking turn of events, the caretaker, Akash Choudhury, has been identified as the mastermind in the gruesome murder case of an elderly couple in Guwahati, Assam. The fingerprints of Akash Choudhury were discovered at the crime scene. While his wife is being questioned by the police, he was arrested on suspicion of his involvement in the case.
Harmeet Singh, the police commissioner in Guwahati, confirmed the news on Wednesday. On Tuesday, police detained Akash Choudhury, a Bihar native, and his wife, and questioned them at the Dispur police station.
For the past 20 years, Aksh has been the couple’s caretaker. On Wednesday, Akash Choudhury, who has been identified as the mastermind of the heinous murder, appeared in the Kamrup (Metro) court of the chief judicial magistrate and was remanded in police custody for seven days.
Apart from Akash, Guwahati Police detained two other suspects on suspicion of being involved in the incident on Tuesday night. Buddhadeb alias Babul and Jon Saikia have been identified. On Tuesday, the police detained two more individuals, Satyendra Singh and Paresh Choudhury.
They were apprehended based on the call records found in Akash’s phone. Despite marathon interrogations, Akash has yet to admit to committing the crime. The murder of an elderly couple in Guwahati’s Beltola area on Monday night sparked outrage.
Chandan Nagar in Beltola’s Survey area reported the incident. The victim couple has been identified as Nani Gopal Barua, 86, and his wife, Meena Barua, 81. On Tuesday morning, the blood-stained bodies of the elderly couple were discovered in their home’s bedroom.
One of the couple’s daughters lives in London, while the other lives in Mumbai. The assassination of an elderly couple in their bedroom has raised concerns about security in Assam’s capital city.
