Baijayant Panda: Congress makes baseless allegations against Assam CM to Keep itself ‘politically’ relevant

Baijayant Panda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said on Monday that the Congress is making baseless allegations against AssamChief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. “The BJP is bribing and luring voters in unethical ways,” the Congress said.

Statement of Baijayant Panda comes after the Congress requested that Himanta Biswa Sarma be barred from campaigning for luring and threatening voters. The Congress demanded that a bribery case be opened and that the Chief Minister be barred from campaigning.

Accusations and counter-accusations between the Congress and the BJP have gained traction ahead of the upcoming bypolls in Assam.

“This demonstrates Congress’ desperation, and they are terrified because they have performed dreadfully in Assam, as well as in all other places where elections have been held in recent years.” “They’re making these wild allegations to stay relevant,” Panda told ANI after a Congress delegation led by Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh met with the Election Commission (EC) and demanded that the EC take strict action against the way voters are being enticed and threatened.

Panda went on to say that the party hoped the Election Commission of India would investigate the matter.

“The Chief Minister’s campaign in Assam is entirely based on the manifesto that was published just a few months ago and on which our election was fought, and those promises have already been fulfilled in Assam.” “You can see the number of arrests and drug seizures, as well as a variety of other actions taken on many different fronts, such as illegal encroachers of non-Indian origin, and many other actions,” he said.

“Congress has never fulfilled any promises they made to the public,” he said, mocking Congress. “I ask them to look at their own situation in their party; rather than making such wild accusations, they should fix their own problems,” he added.

“We have complete faith in the nation’s institutions; the Election Commission of India is highly respected, and I am confident that they will look into it without the Congress’s pressure,” he said.

In advance of the upcoming bypolls in Assam, the Congress charged on Monday that the Sarma government is abusing its power to “crush democracy and murder the Constitution in Assam.”

On October 30, bypolls will be held in five Assam constituencies: Gossaigaon, Bhabanipur, Tamulpur, Mariani, and Thowra. On November 2nd, the results will be announced. There are a total of 31 candidates running in the elections, which will be decided by nearly 8 lakh voters.

In the upcoming by-elections to five assembly seats in Assam, a total of 7,96,456 voters will be able to exercise their right to vote. The BJP won 60 seats in the state’s last assembly election, with the AGP taking nine seats and the UPPL taking six. AIUDF won 16 seats, BPF 4 seats, CPI (M) 1 seat, and Independent 1 seat, giving Congress a total of 29 seats.
