The Assam Congress has made a major attack on the state administration for allegedly using “police brutality” during the eviction campaign in Sipajhar on Thursday.
Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Assam is on state-sponsored fire. I stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the state no children of India deserve this.”
A rally was staged in Mangaldoi in response to the police shooting incident on protestors during the eviction drive in Sipajhar in Darrang District.
The rally was led by the unit president Bhupen Borah of the Assam Congress.
The protest rally was attended by top Assam Congress leaders such as Bhupen Borah, Ripun Bora, Rakibul Hussain, and Debabrata Saikia.
Assam Congress leaders and workers also staged a protest in front of the Darrang district deputy commissioner’s office.
“We Assam Congress demand the immediate suspension of Darrang deputy commissioner and superintendent of police,” Bhupen Borah said.
However, The SP of Assam’s Darrang district, Sushanta Biswa Sarma, is the brother of the state’s chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Assam government has ordered a judicial investigation into the violence that occurred during an eviction drive in Sipajhar on Thursday.
