Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurates ‘Amrit Kanan’ in Nagaon

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, inaugurated “Amrit Kanan,” a park in Nagaon, Assam, built by the Nagaon Municipality Board to commemorate India’s 75th anniversary of independence.

Alongside the Circuit House, the Amrit Park has been developed, where statues of notable people will be erected in their honour. Statues of Nagaon freedom fighters Mahendra Nath Hazarika, Haladar Bhuyan, Debakanta Baruah, and Purna Kanta Sarma have been erected in the park.

New statues of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, Anandaram Dhekiyal Phukan, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru were also erected in the “Amrit Kanan.”

The Chief Minister took the initiative to display well-known national and state leaders for children and youth to learn about India’s heroes. A garden area, seating areas, and attractive lighting greet visitors at the park. After opening the park, CM Sarma also dedicated a new bridge at Anandaram Dhekiyal Phukan Setu.

On Friday, a day before the 97th birthday of modern India’s tallest leader, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Assam government inaugurated a newly constructed park in Guwahati in his honour. Atal Udyan, a park built at a cost of Rs 8.74 crore by the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) in the Adabari region of Assam’s capital city, was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The park is dedicated to former Prime Minister ‘Bharat Ratna’ Atal Bihari Vajpayee and includes a 250-seat amphitheatre, a meditation hall, an open-air gym, children’s play equipment, mural artwork with dais, and more.
