The team of Arunachal Women Helpline-181, run by Oju Welfare Association (OWA), along with interns from Rajiv Gandhi University Rono Hills, Doimukh, and William Cerey University, Meghalaya, conducted a two-day awareness programme and street play on domestic violence on various streets in Naharlagun, including Nerist Gate, Nirjuli, and Papu Nallah.
The primary goal of the street play is to raise public awareness about “Domestic Violence,” as well as to educate the public about specific topics related to it and to inspire individuals to change their minds and behaviours.
Such domestic violence awareness street plays aim to educate community members on the frequency of abuse, urge people to take action, promote social change, and inform survivors of their options and resources.
There are around 1021 cases of violence registered at the Women Helpline -181 office, including 224 cases of domestic violence. As a result, such programmes are implemented by the team WHL-181 each year with interns from various universities.
So that society can unite against violence and men’s attitudes toward women can be modified, resulting in a male-dominated society that respects women and reduces abuse.
The Helpline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can contact them by calling 181, texting 9436852222, calling 0360 2350377, or sending an email to [email protected]
