Concerned about the poor state of the 22-kilometer PMGSY road connecting Khuchep and Changlang town, residents of the villages, led by the Rangkatu Youth Association, volunteered to repair the road on Monday.
Volunteers included youths and members of the community-based organisation Longchang Elite Society, who filled potholes along the entire stretch of road with help from Changlang DC Dr Devansh Yadav and the business community.
The road connecting villages such as Kengkhu, Rangkatu, Chokdok Jungmaisung, Simrang, and others to Changlang town is in desperate need of repair.
The RWD has not done any road maintenance in the last 7-8 years due to a lack of funds. Meanwhile, the state of the road is causing significant hardship to daily commuters, particularly those with medical emergencies.
Work on the bypass road connecting these major villages, which runs from Kengkhu village to the helipad area, is still on hold, adding to their woes. Locals have no choice but to travel on the dilapidated road, despite the fact that many people are injured in accidents on a regular basis, especially during the monsoon season.
The Rangkatu Youth Association has urged the state government to give the road top priority and ensure that it is repaired as soon as possible in the public interest.
