Arunachal: Two officials Arrested in Connection to Longo Children Drowning Case  

Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap Police arrested two officials of SKS Infra Project Pvt Ltd in connection with the death of three children in Longo Village of Tirap district.

According to reports, Umesh Kumar Tripathi (47), assistant engineer (structure) and Anil Kumar (51), project manager of SKS Infra Project Pvt Ltd were arrested by Tirap police on October 14.

Further, a notice under section 41 A(1) of CrPC has been served to the deputy project manager of the SKS Infra Project Pvt Ltd.

After the incident took place, a committee led by Tirap DC Taro Mize as its chairman was formed on October 13 to probe the whole incident.

The committee submitted its report on October 20 with all the necessary details including the post mortem report of the three deceased children. The post mortem confirmed that the children died due to asphyxia resulting from ante mortem drowning.

The shocking incident took place on October 10, when Three children died after drowning in a 9 feet deep pit dug for the construction of a culvert at Longo village in Tirap district. The locals alleged that the pit dug by SKS Infra Projects Ltd was without a signboard or a protection grid.

They also blamed the construction agency for the unfortunate incident and accused them of being casual and unprofessional.

Earlier, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) issued a notice to the deputy commissioner of Tirap district, calling for a detailed report.

The commission also requested the state government to provide compensation under the Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, 2011 to the victims’ families.
