Shipwreck off coast of Libya claimed lives of at least 57 migrants

A boat sank off the Libyan coast near Khums on Monday, killing at least 57 people, the latest tragedy in the Mediterranean, where more than 1,100 people have died this year, according to the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Although no bodies have been discovered from the disaster, IOM spokesperson Safa Msehli told Reuters that survivors included migrants from Nigeria, Ghana, and Gambia.
