In the final days of airlift for civilians fleeing the Taliban rule, two suicide bombers and gunmen attack crowds of Afghans converging to Kabul’s airport. The bombings outside Kabul airport killed at least 110 people, including 13 US troops.
More attacks are expected on US forces assisting Afghans desperate to flee Taliban control. The Islamic State in Khorasan Province, ISKP (ISIS-K), an Afghan offshoot of ISIL (ISIS), claimed responsibility for Thursday’s incident, saying its suicide bombers targeted “translators and collaborators with the American army.”
US President Joe Biden promised to retaliate for the Kabul explosions, stating that they were conducted by ISIS-K. He said, “We will hunt you down and make you pay. I will defend our interests in our people with every measure at my command,”.
