Veteran actor and director of Assamese mobile theatre, Pranjit Das passed away on Sunday in Guwahati at the age of 63. The actor was admitted to a private hospital after he fell down while performing in a play called ‘Parshunath’s Beloved’ at Surya Theatre on January 5. 

The actor was taken to Hatshingimari Civil Hospital in critical condition. The artist was eventually referred to Guwahati for further care and was being treated in Metro Hospital’s ICU. 

The actor had reportedly suffered a brain stroke and was undergoing treatment.

Das has played a number of popular characters and directed numerous plays for different mobile theatre groups of Assam in his three-decade long career.

Assam’s artistic community has expressed deep sorrow over Pranjit Das’ death.
