The Tinsukia district administration has extended cremation grounds and has set up new pyres to deal with the rising COVID-related deaths in Assam.
At Bajaltoli-Hengalguri cremation ground at Borguri, three gas-based pyres have been setup on the outskirts of Tinsukia town.
The Tinsukia Municipal Board (TMB), under orders from the district administration, took up the task to develop cremation infrastructure for COVID-19 victims. The Bajaltoli-Hengalguri cremation ground, has a single wood-based cremation bed.
A source in the civic body told this correspondent that the work for fabrication of cremation bed is underway. “
Oil India Limited (OIL) has donated special quality pipes (tampered pipes, which can resist heat up to 800 degrees Celsius) for the fabrication of cremation bed.
Assam Gas Company Limited (AGCL) have finished the gas pipeline laying work till the cremation ground at Borguri.
Two more gas-based pyres will be set up at the prevailing cremation ground at college road near Katchujan field in Tinsukia town.
